Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino handed double injury blow ahead of Sheffield United visit

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a double injury blow ahead of Saturday afternoon's Premier League encounter with Sheffield United.

The Lilywhites go into the game on the back of a 4-0 win away from home against Red Star in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Goals from Giovani Lo Celso, Son Heung-min (x2) and Christian Eriksen gave Mauricio Pochettino's side a comfortable win and put them firmly on course to reach the knockout stages.

However, attentions turn back to domestic matters and they face a Sheffield United side who actually sit above them in the table.

Chris Wilder's side are enjoying a successful start to life back in the Premier League, and will pose a difficult test for Spurs, who are looking to turn their season around.

And there's some bad news for the hosts ahead of the game.

Erik Lamela and Jan Vertonghen will miss the fixture because of injury.

A statement via the club's Twitter account reads: "@ErikLamela and @JanVertonghen (both hamstring) - continuing rehabilitation outdoors, unavailable this weekend.

"Hugo Lloris (elbow) - day two post-surgery and continuing recovery."

Lamela had impressed in the 5-0 win against Red Star Belgrade last month with two assists and a goal as Spurs got back to winning ways in the Champions League.

However, a thigh injury picked up in training at Hotspur Way on Saturday caused him to miss the 2-1 loss at Anfield. The midfielder then missed the 1-1 draw with Everton and was also left out of the squad for the Champions League win over the same opposition.

Meanwhile, Vertonghen has also missed the last three games.

One player who could feature against the Blades is Giovani Lo Celso.

The Argentine made his first start for Spurs in midweek, but will be assessed ahead of the game.

"I need to assess tomorrow morning, it is a short time to recover," Pochettino said in his pre-match press conference. "Some players suffer small issues and we have three games in six days.

"I still need to decide the team for tomorrow."
