Tottenham and Liverpool fans are saying the same thing about Bruno Fernandes' 'big six' comment

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has faced plenty of criticism from rival fans after a comment he has made on the eve of the Manchester derby tomorrow.

United travel to face rivals Manchester City in the Premier League tomorrow, with Pep Guardiola's men 14 points ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's charges.

Ahead of the game, Fernandes has been speaking about his record this season, having scored 22 goals in 40 games for the Red Devils in the 2020/21 campaign.

The Manchester United is yet to score from open play against one of the so-called big six in the Premier League this season, with his penalty in a 6-1 defeat against Spurs, as Jose Mourinho’s men ran riot at Old Trafford in October, being his only goal against sides of that calibre.

But speaking to Sky Sports, Fernandes hit back by saying: “I don’t know what some people mean when they say top six in the table, because the teams who are in the top six in the table, I score and assist against some of them.

“I scored this season against Tottenham, but people say penalties don’t count. So the game doesn’t finish 6-1, it finishes 6-0.

“So I know, people are waiting, expecting Bruno to score every game, to assist every game because when I arrived, I was playing really well and I want to do that."

But his comments have sparked a response from Spurs fans, with some taking to social media to point something out to Fernandes, along with supporters of rival clubs.

Fernandes has, however, scored goals against third-placed Leicester City and fifth-placed Everton in the Premier League this season, while he has also scored against Liverpool in the FA Cup and against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

And the Portuguese midfielder has said that he knows when he has or has not played well, adding that he treats all games the same, regardless of the level of the opponent.

“For me, the most important thing as a player, I don’t look for the big six or the rest of the league. I look for every game in the same way," he added.

“If people want to look at the stats, if they look at the stats in the last few games against the big teams, my passing accuracy was good.

“I think just against Chelsea it was not really good, and I agree in the last two games I didn’t play very well, and I know that, I don’t need to see the stats to see if I play well or not, I know when I play well or not.”
