Tottenham and Chelsea get Pedro Porro transfer ultimatum as £39m deal hinges on one key point

Sporting coach Ruben Amorim has delivered a message to Chelsea and Tottenham amid speculation that star player Pedro Porro could leave the club this window. The former Manchester City wing-back has come onto the radar of both clubs as both Antonio Conte and Graham Potter look to strengthen their backline.

The Italian has had to choose between a selection of options on the right side, giving Matt Doherty a recent run after growing frustrated with Emerson Royal. Summer signing Djed Spence hasn't made the desired impact since moving from Middlesbrough last year.

Potter, on the other hand, has lost Reece James twice already due to injury since arriving in September, and has no like-for-like backup for the Englishman with Cesar Azpilicueta ageing. Whereas Chelsea have already shown their winter ambition by signing five players - with Noni Madueke expected to make that six this week - Spurs haven't been active yet.

The two London sides are keen to add a player with immediate first-team quality to their books for the second half of the season as they attempt to mount an assault on the top four having fallen off in recent weeks. Porro is top of the list on both counts but Amorim doesn't see his player leaving.

Speaking on Thursday, he said: "I can't guarantee anything. It doesn't seem to me that he will leave. To leave at this moment, he has to leave due to the clause. That is the knowledge I have."

Porro's release clause is €45million (£39.9million) it has been reiterated that there is no way he leaves for less than that. Chelsea have already had trouble with meeting the demands of Portuguese sides this window after failing to agree with Benfica's valuation for Enzo Fernandez.

Spurs, on the other hand, have made Porro, a midfielder, and an attacker their priority for this window but are yet to make meaningful progress. Amid their interest, Amorim added: "If he leaves, it has to be because of the clause. Either there is a club that exceeds the clause and Porro wants to leave or he will not leave in January."

Porro already has five assists in 13 league games this season and has 10 in all competitions. He has also scored two goals having left Man City permanently over the summer.
