Tottenham and Arsenal put on alert as Real Madrid winger makes transfer decision

Tottenham and Arsenal have been given fresh hope over the possibility of signing Lucas Vazquez from Real Madrid.

That's after the 29-year-old reportedly turned down the offer of a new contract in the Spanish capital.

Vazquez has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League in recent transfer windows, with Spurs manager Jose Mourinho linked with a reunion after working with the winger during his time at Real Madrid.

But it is being reported by the Mirror that Real Madrid are now considering a move for Levante's Jorge De Frutos, with Marca stating that talks have broken down over a new deal for Vazquez and a summer exit looking increasingly likely.

The Spanish winger has made 31 appearances for Real Madrid this season, but has been played in different positions, both as a right winger and a wing-back.

It is understood that Vazquez, who could be a free agent this summer if a new deal is not agreed, would be keen to continue playing Champions League football, which could be a stumbling block for either Tottenham or Arsenal, or potentially both.

As things stand, Tottenham sit eighth in the Premier League, six points behind London rivals Chelsea, who are currently fourth in the table.

Arsenal are currently tenth in the table with 41 points, four behind Spurs and ten behind Chelsea, albeit with a game in hand.
