Tottenham agree Giovani Lo Celso deal with Real Betis as Argentina ace set for €60m move

Tottenham Hotspur are understood to have agreed a deal with Real Betis for Giovani Lo Celso following several months of negotiations.

The Argentina international will cost the Premier League club an initial €52million, with a further €8m due in performance-related variables.

Lo Celso has been identified by Tottenham as a successor to Christian Eriksen, who is in the final year of his contract at the London club and has stated his interest in moving elsewhere in this summer's window.

The South American's acquisition forms part of an aggressive plan to add pace and technical quality to Mauricio Pochettino's midfield as he seeks his first major trophy of his coaching career.

At the beginning of last month, Tottenham signed Tanguy Ndombele from Olympique Lyonnais for a club-record transfer fee of €62m plus €10m of bonuses.

Last week, two senior club officials travelled to Lisbon to negotiate a deal for Portugal international Bruno Fernandes.

Record Sport understands that Sporting have informed Fernandes that he will be allowed to leave the club for a fee of €60m plus bonuses.

According to a source involved in the negotiations, Sporting rejected an opening offer of €45m, and an improved bid of €50m plus variables, for the free-scoring midfielder.

Lo Celso, 23, scored nine goals and was credited with five assists in 32 La Liga appearances for Betis last season. In April, Betis exercised a €22m option to convert the playmaker's season loan from Paris Saint-Germain into a full transfer . His new contract at Betis contained a €100m release clause with PSG entitled to 20 per cent of any transfer fee above €25m.
