Tottenham ace Harry Winks has a message over his preferred role after scoring first England goal

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks described his first goal for England as a “dream come true”.

Gareth Southgate’s side secured a comfortable 4-0 victory on Sunday evening, with Spurs star Winks firing the Three Lions ahead in the first half.

Before second half goals from Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount followed for Southgate's side, who had already secured their place in Euro 2020 prior to the game.

Despite struggling to nail down a place in Spurs’ starting line-up, Winks has now started both of England’s November fixtures as he looks to secure a place in Southgate’s squad for next summer's championships.

And when asked post-match on his favourite position in midfield, Winks revealed how he prefers to be in the number eight position.

“It’s a dream come true to score for my country,” Winks said.

“It’s one I never really thought would happen, but to score the first goal was a great moment for me.

“I like to consider myself as someone who can be in the pivot or be a number eight. The manager told me what he wanted from the role and I tried my best to deliver that.

“There’s always moments we need to improve on, but we were excellent today, and ruthless.”
