Tottenham academy ace signs new contract and clinches loan move for remainder of 2020/21 season

Tottenham youngster Jubril Okedina has committed his future to the club by penning a new contract until 2022 in north London.

The 20-year-old has made a big impression in Premier League 2 so far this season, scoring three goals in his 11 appearances for the Lilywhites.

Now looking to gain valuable experience of playing first-team football in his bid to become a Spurs regular, the defender has joined Cambridge United on loan for the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign.

Okedina follows in the footsteps of academy ace Jack Roles who flourished at the League Two club last season after sealing a loan move to the Abbey Stadium.

Speaking following the defender's move to the club, Cambridge head coach Mark Bonner has claimed that the player is a "good addition" due to his attitude, athleticism and defensive qualities.

“We are pleased to add Jubril to our squad for the second half of the season and look forward to overseeing this period of his development," he told Cambridge's official website.

"This will be a good experience for Jubril as it’s his first senior loan and he offers us good competition and cover in the defensive unit.

“Jubril is motivated to push for a place in the team and his attitude, defensive qualities and athleticism make him a good addition.”

The Woolwich-born player is one of a number of the club's youngsters out on loan this term, with Troy Parrott at Millwall, TJ Eyoma at Lincoln City and Roles at Burton Albion.

Okedina, who has captained Tottenham's development squad on a number of occasions this season, will be intent on making his way to the Spurs first team in the not too distant future after watching the likes of Japhet Tanganga, Oliver Skipp and Harvey White do exactly that over the past 12 months.
