Tottenham 2-0 Brentford: Routine win for Antonio Conte and momentum could be building

Tottenham appeared to finally build some momentum under the stewardship of Antonio Conte on Thursday evening by beating Brentford 2-0.

Recording their second consecutive Premier League win, Spurs went ahead through a Sergi Canos own goal after a short corner and subsequent cross from Heung-min Son and, largely, looked in control for most of the game.

Brentford did enjoy a lot of the possession but failed to create many clear-cut opportunities for Ivan Toney, although Charlie Goode’s numerous long throw-ins did appear to cause problems.

Harry Kane, who faded after a good start, did manage to produce perhaps his best moment of the season so far shortly after the internal and a period in which Conte saw a much better performance from his side.

Dropping into the deep position that yielded such success last time out, the England captain played a wonderful ball over to the energetic Sergio Reguilon, who squared for Son to tap in before the hour mark.

From there, it was all rather routine for Spurs, who certainly looked to have benefitted from the extra time Conte was afforded on the training pitch after Sunday’s game at Burnley was postponed.

These are early days of course, though Tottenham might be starting to build some momentum.
