Tottenham 1-0 Birmingham: Late Steven Bergwijn goal seals Spurs win

A last-gasp Steven Bergwijn stunner secured a second Tottenham pre-season win in as many days with a 1-0 victory over Championship side Birmingham.

With Birmingham happy to sit deep, it took Tottenham until the 89th minute to finally break the deadlock as the second half substitute Bergwijn undid all of Birmingham's hard work with an emphatic strike.

After beating Reading 4-1 only one day prior, Jose Mourinho opted for a host of changes, handing Joe Hart is first start in Spurs colours, with Eric Dier captaining a side largely comprised of youngsters.

Harry Kane also returned to the squad following the conclusion of his self-isolation period having returned from a trip to the Bahamas, while Denis Cirkin, Harvey White, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Ryan Sessegnon were provided the opportunity to impress from the off.

Tottenham scored in the first 10 minutes against both Ipswich and Reading but looked rather pedestrian in the first-half, the best chance falling to Dier, who headed wide following a pin-point free-kick from the 18-year-old Harvey White.

Mourinho made four changes at half-time, with the more established squad memebers in Hugo Lloris, Dele Alli, Ben Davies and Steven Bergwijn entering the field of play.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Heung-min Son were also brought on in the second with Spurs struggling to break down a stubborn Birmingham defence, with the latter quickly setting up a chance for Sessegnon, who sent a blistering right-footed attempt crashing into the side-netting.

Birmingham as if they were to hold on for an impressive draw but, with mere seconds remaining, Bergwijn cut onto his right foot before firing a lethal shot into the bottom right-hand corner to hand Spurs a third successive win.

Mourinho and his side now have exactly a week to prepare for their final pre-season game against Watford, with their season opener at home to Everton now just two weeks away.

First-half XI: Hart, Aurier, Dier, Carter-Vickers, Cirkin, White, Sissoko, Clarke, Gedson, Sessegnon, Lucas

Second-half XI: Lloris, Aurier, Dier, Carter-Vickers, Davies, Sissoko, Gedson, Alli, Bergwijn, Lucas
