Tottenham 0-2 Arsenal: First Women's Super League north London derby smashes WSL attendance record

Arsenal beat Tottenham 2-0 in the first ever FA Women's Super League north London derby as the rivals set a new WSL attendance record at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs won promotion to the WSL for the 2019-20 season, with the ensuing FA WSL license making the team professional for the first time in their 34-year history.

That promotion meant Spurs would be facing Arsenal in the first ever WSL north London derby this term - and with it being the men's international break, the match was scheduled to be held at Tottenham's main stadium to ensure a bumper crowd.

Tottenham had hoped to break the previous WSL attendance record of 31,214 set by Manchester City and Manchester United at the Etihad in September, and they got their wish with a crowd of 38,262.

Despite that success, Tottenham fell to a 2-0 defeat with second-half goals from Kim Little and Vivianne Miedema ensuring that, for now, the Gunners remain the dominant force from north London in the women's game.

Sunday's crowd smashed the record by over 6,000 supporters, making November an excellent month for women's football attendances.

A record crowd of 77,768 watched Germany beat England Lionesses at Wembley on November 9, while 28,000 watched Corinthians beat local rival Sao Paulo at the Arena Corinthians stadium - a record for Brazilian women's football.
