'Totally unprovoked' assault in Edinburgh city centre left man with head injury

Police are trying to find the man responsible for a "totally unprovoked" attack in Edinburgh city centre which left the victim with a head injury.

Detectives are investigating a serious assault on Frederick Street on the night of Friday, November 8.

A 23-year-old man was attacked by someone described as being 6ft tall with a heavy build.

The victim suffered a head injury during the assault, which took place between 11pm and 1am. The attack was reported the following Monday.

Detective constable Iain Wallace, of Police Scotland's Violence Reduction Unit, said: "I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

"This was a totally unprovoked attack on a member of the public."

Anyone with information has been asked to contact police via 101, quoting incident number 1547 of 11 November.
