
The total foreign assets of the Central Bank of Oman increased by 8.1 percent by end of October, amounting to 6,769,500 thousand Omani riyals, compared to 6,262,100 thousand Omani riyals in October 2019.
According to the Oman News Agency (ONA), preliminary data issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information indicated that the local liquidity has increased by about 1.566 million Omani riyals.
In Oct 2020, the total issued cash amounted to about 1,790, 500 thousand Omani riyals, an increase of 14 percent compared to the same period in 2019, during which 1,571,100 thousand Omani riyals were issued.
The money supply, which consists of total cash outside the banking system in addition to current accounts and demand deposits in local currency increased by 8.1 percent, amounting to 5,439,100 thousand Omani Riyals, compared with 5,030,400 thousand Omani Riyals by the end of October 2019.
The local liquidity increased during the same period by 8.9 percent, recording 19,090,600 thousand Omani riyals, compared to 17,524,900 thousand Omani riyals in Oct. 2019.
Private sector deposits in commercial banks amounted to 16,394,200 thousand Omani riyals in Oct. 2020, an increase of nine percent from the same period in 2019, during which private sector deposits were 15,046,300 thousand Omani riyals.
Total loans and financing in commercial banks increased by 2.2 percent to reach 26,438,500 thousand Omani riyals, compared to 25,872,400 thousand Omani riyals.
The average interest rate on total loans decreased by 0.4 percent, recording 5.5 percent in late Oct. 2020.
