Total cost surrounding Dail printer scandal is actually €1.6million

The total cost surrounding the Dail printer scandal is actually €1.629million.

There was also not an understanding of the "head height" of the Komori Printing Press at the early stages of the project, which would lead to huge renovation costs.

Dail clerk Peter Finnegan has completed a report which details the growing cost surrounding the controversial printer.

A staggering €230,000 (excluding VAT) was spent on unanticipated renovations to the printing room because the original measurements were wrong, while the cost of the printer and associated equipment reached a staggering €1,369,605.

The report states: "The requirements of the building and other regulations in relation to 'head height' were neither understood nor examined during the early critical stages of the project.

"A project of this scale and complexity requires specialist expertise (particularly architectural) and engineering on the project team at all stages and this must be a consideration in all future projects."
