Tosca is one of Italian composer Giacomo Puccini’s most beloved operas, and to celebrate the State Opera of South Australia’s 40th year, soprano Kate Ladner takes up the role of Floria Tosca.

The opera is based on a 19th century French melodrama. Set in Rome in 1800, Scarpia demands Tosca pay a price to free her lover, Cavaradossi, and she must bargain with her nemesis to secure his freedom.

Tenor Rosario La Spina sings the role of painter Mario Cavaradoissi, while baritone Mario Bellanova plays Baron Scarpia.
