Toryglen thug jailed for 32 months after street attack

A Toryglen thug who battered a Good Samaritan in the street has been jailed for 32 months.

Declan Sinclair, 25, attacked the middle-aged man on Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street in February 2018.

The 50-year-old was assaulted after initially going to the aid of a woman, who Sinclair had also turned on.

Sinclair’s shoe print was left on the woman’s face as a result of the attack.

A sheriff heard how Sinclair’s male victim was knocked unconscious after being punched and kicked.

He was so badly hurt he spent three months in intensive care.

Sinclair was locked up after he pled guilty to the two assaults.

Glasgow Sheriff Court was told his female victim had been verbally abused by a woman in the early hours of February 5. Sinclair – who knew this female – pounced on the woman.

Prosecutor Harry Findlay said she was shoved to the ground before being repeatedly punched.

Mr Findlay said: “[The male victim] saw what was happening and became involved to try and stop it. He was punched several times and fell to the ground.

“He tried to protect his body but eventually lost consciousness for a few minutes.”

Both victims were rushed to hospital. The man had severe facial and shoulder injuries.

The fiscal said: “He was used to multi-tasking and working under pressure.

“He now experiences headaches, tinnitus, has a loss of balance and limited movement in his right shoulder.”

The woman was left badly bruised by the ordeal.

Mr Findlay: “The marks on her face were a match for shoes recovered from Sinclair.”
