Tory Party Chief Brandon Lewis 'tells MEP candidates they will not get elected'

It is not a great time to be a Conservative party candidate for the European Parliament.

Senior members of your party are basically saying the party need to do a cross-over episode with Nigel Farage or you'll get ganked .

You lost over 1,300 councillors in the local elections and you've slumped to fifth in the polls .

And on top of all of that, not even good old Ann Widdecombe trusts you anymore.

So it probably doesn't help your mood much to hear that Party Chairman Brandon Lewis think you have absolutely no chance of getting elected on May 23.

According to reports in The Telegraph Mr Lewis has told candidates the best they can hope for is raising their profile ahead of the next elections.

Mr Lewis reportedly told candidates that if “you are not an MEP already you aren't winning and added that the “chances of somebody further down the list getting elected are pretty slim".

Well maybe it isn't surprising the party have refused to launch a national campaign and are bracing for a wipeout result.

Meanwhile Mr Farage's Brexit party are riding high in the polls and look likely to win the election, just weeks after being founded.

He's even said the party are targeting Labour's heartland seats.
