Tory MSP Murdo Fraser calls for 'no more Buddhists' at Rangers

MURDO Fraser has called for “no more Buddhists” as Rangers manager after the sacking of Russell Martin.

Martin was sacked by the football club after just 17 games in charge.

The Tory MSP for mid-Scotland and Fife, who is a Rangers fan, took to social media afterwards.

"No more vegans, Bhuddhists (sic) or Green Party members please Rangers,” he wrote.

The former defender turned manager has been a vegan since 2014, including being the former owner of vegan restaurant Erpingham House.

Martin is also a Green Party member and follows Buddhist teachings to help with "visualisation, manifestation, goal-setting".

It was widely panned as inappropriate or offensive.

“This is a strange tweet for an MSP,” SNP councillor Christina Cannon said in reaction.

“This is an elected Tory MSP. What an astonishingly inappropriate tweet,” said one user.

Another asked: “A club welcome to all?”
