Covid deaths plunge to a five month low as 33 fatalities are recorded

Covid deaths have plunged to a five month low with just 33 fatalities recorded on Sunday.

It comes as 873,784 vaccines were registered in the UK in a 24 hour period, smashing Saturday’s record of 711,156.

Defence secretary Ben Wallace said booking a foreign holiday abroad would be “premature” while speaking to Andrew Marr on Sunday.

Swathes of Europe have gone into lockdown amid a third wave of coronavirus making international travel this summer look increasingly unlikely.

Meanwhile, Tory MPs have lashed out at plans to extend draconian lockdown laws for another six months.

Boris Johnson is expected to push through an extension to some coronavirus legislation on Thursday, including the power to ban protests, close ports and detain citizens until October.

Dozens of MPs are expected to rebel.
