Tory MPs including veteran Sir Graham Brady could lose Greater Manchester seats to Labour according to bombshell new poll

A new bombshell poll suggests the Tories could lose several Greater Manchester seats with Labour opening a significant lead in public opinion.

The poll, which surveyed almost 25,000 people, suggested that Labour would win a General Election with the party eight per cent ahead of the Conservatives.

It also claimed that veteran Tory MP Sir Graham Brady, who has held his Altrincham and Sale West seat since 1997, could lose it to Labour.

The figures suggested the Tories would also lose the gains it made at the 2019 election in Bolton North East, Bury North, Bury South, Heywood and Middleton and Leigh.

Bolton West, represented by a Conservative MP who has held the seat since 2015, could also turn red, the poll suggests.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson would lose his own seat, according to the poll commissioned by The Sunday Times.

It comes after damaging revelations have come to light about parties held in Downing Street last Christmas, and as the Government battles a surge in cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant.

The poll, conducted by Focaldata, asked nearly 25,000 people across the country about their voting intentions and projected the data across UK constituencies.

Conservative gains in 'Red Wall' seats across the country, including those in Greater Manchester, helped propel the Tories to a landslide victory with a House of Commons majority of 80 in 2019.

But this latest poll suggests Labour would win an election with a majority of 26 today.

Justin Ibbett, chief executive of Focaldata, told The Sunday Times: "Boris Johnson has overseen a seismic drop in Conservative Party support across all sections of society.

"It compares to 1997, when Blair took power. The big difference now is that Starmer isn’t seen as a leader-in-waiting.

"But this poll still implies a Conservative wipeout.

"It confirms the trend we have been seeing in recent opinion polls, with Labour holding a strong vote-intention lead over the Tories.

"The Conservatives’ standing among the public has been badly hit by the string of damaging revelations over previous weeks.

"Indeed, that Labour performs so well in this MRP poll is more due to Conservative collapse than a resurgent Labour."

How Greater Manchester constituencies could vote, according to Focaldata poll.
