An MP who chased a suspected thief down a London high street and secured his arrest has been praised for getting “stuck in”.
Shadow Treasury minister Gareth Davies saw a male suspect apparently taking an item from the back of a vehicle in Maida Vale on Saturday.
Davies followed the man for 15 minutes through the streets of the affluent north-west London enclave in the hope he could be arrested.
The suspect did not know he was being watched during the low-speed pursuit.
But the Conservative Tory MP for Grantham and Bourne called police to report what he had seen, the Daily Telegraph reports.
Davies told officers where the suspect was located and they apprehended him at a bus stop.
The Metropolitan Police said following reports from a “member of the public… officers quickly attended and a 48-year-old man was arrested near the scene.
Sadiq Khan is driving a proud city into the ground.

“He was taken into custody and has since been bailed while further enquiries are carried out.”
The victim’s belonging was later returned, the newspaper said.
Shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick, whose own pursuit of fare dodgers at Stratford station made the headlines last month, said: “Good for Gareth.
“Sometimes you have to get stuck in and sort things out.”
