Tory MP suffers concussion after falling off chair

A Conservative MP suffered whiplash and a concussion after she fell off her chair during a meeting.

Andrea Jenkyns, a prominent Brexiteer backbencher, said she had been swinging back on the chair when she slipped off and hit her head on a radiator.

“That’s the last time I swing on my chair during a meeting! Whiplash and concussion,” she tweeted, along with a picture of her in a head and neck brace.

Shortly after the accident happened Ms Jenkyns began to feel dizzy and her vision blurred, she told The Daily Telegraph.

One of her staff grabbed a bag of frozen peas from the freezer to put on the MP’s head and then took her to a doctor’s surgery.

But the doctor decided she needed to be sent to hospital, where she was diagnosed with whiplash and a concussion.

The accident-prone MP also managed to cut open her foot on a gate last year, leaving her hobbling for several months.

She won Ed Balls’s old seat of Morley and Outwood, near Leeds, in the 2015 general election and has been a vocal advocate for Brexit ever since.

Last year she quit as a ministerial aide and warned Theresa May not to pursue a “half in, half out” Brexit deal which would not “deliver on the promise” of the referendum.

A long-time supporter of Boris Johnson, she sparked controversy by arguing last summer the Conservatives should allow pro-Brexit outsiders to join the party, despite fears of entryism.

Her intervention came shortly after the Ukip donor Arron Banks urged the 88,000 supporters of his Hard Brexit group Leave.EU to “flood” the Tory party so they could vote in a “true Brexiteer” such as Mr Johnson as leader.
