Tory MP Mark Garnier interrupted live on air by Siri in awkward BBC News blunder

A Tory MP was interrupted live on air tonight by his phone - and joked he had been "heckled by Siri".

Mark Garnier was speaking about the Conservative leadership race when a noise started coming from his mobile.

Discussing the contenders, Mark said: "They see a member of Parliament who is fun to be with, actually we are now looking at who is going to be the Prime Minister..."

Suddenly there was a beeping noise and Siri asked: "Sorry I couldn't find Sia in your music."

The frustrated politician reached over to turn stop his phone from talking out loud and apologised.

"My apologies," said Mr Garnier as he tried to continue with the interview while speaking live from Westminster.

But the BBC News presenters wanted to find out what had gone on during their chat.

One of them joked: "Is that another endorsement?"

Mr Garnier, who is the Conservative MP for Wyre Forest, replied: "I've been heckled by Siri."

He managed to laugh off the moment and got back to talking politics.

BBC Politics tweeted: "Fans of cheap thrills - Siri interrupts Conservative MP's interview... with message about @ Sia"

This came after Boris Johnson stormed to victory in the second round of voting in the Tory leadership elections by securing 126 votes.

In second place, Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt was up three votes to 46, while Michael Gove gained 41 votes.

Wildcard contender Rory Stewart gained 37 votes and Home Secretary Sajid Javid queaked through with 33.

Hard Brexiteer Dominic Raab crashed out with just 30 votes.
