Tory MP for Leigh apologies after video emerges of him 'flashing his genitals' to young woman in pub

The first Conservative MP to win a seat in Leigh has apologised after flashing his genitals in a pub.

It's understood James Grundy, who became the first ever Tory MP for Leigh when he won the seat at the general election, was filmed exposing himself in the Rams Head Inn in Lowton, Warrington.

In a statement issued to the M.E.N, Mr Grundy said: "I apologise for my actions and for any offence caused.”

A Conservative party spokesman advised the incident took place at a private event and all those present were aged 18 or over.

The footage, obtained by LBC, is understood to have been taken in 2007, before Mr Grundy became an MP - and some months before he was elected as a Conservative councillor.

In the video, Mr Grundy is seen to drop his trousers as the voice of a young woman instructs him to lift his shirt.

He is heard to say his face should not be featured.

LBC has also featured other videos recorded in the same pub on the same day, in which Mr Grundy sings a rowdy rendition of the Adam and the Ant’s song Stand and Deliver'.

At the time of the incident, Mr Grundy was in his late 20s, while the women involved are understood to have been aged 18 or over.

Mr Grundy won the Leigh seat in December, beating Labour MP shadow minister Jo Platt and halting a 97-year run of Labour control.

Ms Platt had taken the reins from previous incumbent Andy Burnham, now Greater Manchester's mayor, who had a 14,000 majority as recently as 2015.

Securing a 1,956 majority, Mr Grundy's victory marked a 12pc swing to the Conservatives.

Shortly after the result was announced, Mr Grundy said that him being surprised by the result was the "understatement of the century".

"I came here tonight expecting to lose with dignity, rather than head down to London tomorrow

"I suppose I'm going to have to think on my feet about what I'm going to do."
