A Tory MP has declared a £60,000 third job giving 'strategic advice' to a private firm - despite claiming being an MP would be his 'full-time job'.
Steven McPartland already works ten hours a month as a non-executive director of Furniture Village, from which he pockets more than £4,000 a month.
But the latest Register of Members' Interests reveals the MP for Stevenage now puts more time in as a strategic adviser for MBU Capital Group, for which he will be paid £5,000 a month.
According to National World, MBU Capital Group is a London-based financial firm which invests in "national resources, education, cannabis/CBD and real estate".
He took the new job on 1 November , and according to the register, expects to work for eight hours a month - which amounts to £625 an hour.
Mr McPartland, shortly before his election in 2010, promised: “If I became Stevenage's MP, I would treat it as a full-time job.”
Boris Johnson has promised an overhaul of the rules governing MPs outside earnings - banning MPs from “exploiting their positions” by working as paid consultants.
But Labour have argued his plans don’t go far enough, and pledged to ban all second jobs for MPs, with just a few exemptions.
It emerged last night that a string of Tory MPs had given up their second jobs in the wake of the scandal.
The latest register of members interests shows former chief whip Julian Smith has given up paid roles worth more than £140,000 a year.
They include Hygen Energy - a green fuel firm founded by Jo Bamford, the son of JCB mogul and major Tory donor Sir Anthony Bamford - which paid him up to £60,000 a year as an “external adviser advising on business development”.
Former Tory leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith’s register has been updated to show he is no longer a member of the advisory board of healthcare tech firm Tunstall.
And Winchester MP Steve Brine’s record has been updated to say he has stepped back as a “strategic adviser” to Sigma pharmaceuticals.
