Tory leadership election: Results in full as Sajid Javid knocked out of contest

The results of the fourth round of the Conservative party's leadership contest saw Home Secretary Sajid Javid knocked out by MPs.

Mr Javid secured just 34 votes - putting him in last place as Tory MPs cast their votes in the first of two ballots today.

He lost four votes since last night's ballot.

Boris Johnson consolidates his position as front runner in the contest winning 157 votes - over half of Tory MPs -  with Michael Gove and Jeremy Hunt trailing him in a distant second and third place.

Mr Gove snuck ahead of Mr Hunt for the first time, although his lead is just two votes.

One of the two will be wiped out in the next round this afternoon.

All 313 MPs voted and two ballots were spoilt.

The remaining three candidates will be whittled down to two at 6pm today.

The winners will then be selected by a vote of the 160,000 Conservative Party members across the UK.

In a statement Sajid Javid said: "Over the last few weeks it has been a great privilege to promote my vision for the country, through Brexit and beyond.

"I have been truly humbled by the support I have received from colleagues and Conservatives around the country."

He added: "There are very challenging times ahead for our party, our government and our country.

"The Conservatives must continue to be a broad church if we are to deliver Brexit, bring change while in government and beat Corbyn at the next election."
