Tory Andrew Griffiths cleared by sleaze watchdog over barmaid sex text scandal

Disgraced ex-minister Andrew Griffiths has been cleared by the Parliamentary Standards watchdog over his sex text shame.

The Tory sent X-rated messages to two barmaids behind his wife’s back.

Standards chiefs ruled they could “not be sure” Mr Griffiths, 48, sent or received explicit messages when he would have been “engaged in Parliamentary activities”.

But the probe ruled some were sent during office hours.

Evidence shows several were sent in close proximity to Commons votes he took part in.

One to Imogen Treharne was at 4.22pm as a vote on an EU matter was taking place.

The same day cash was sent to Imogen by the ex-small business minister, a father of one.

He also begged for racy snaps on the same day as votes were happening on four Commons bills.

Mr Griffiths sent 2,000 texts in all, referring to himself as “Daddy” and outlining sex acts.

One constituent who complained about the Burton-on-Trent MP blasted the verdict.

Local businessman John Anderson said: “An MP should be a role model in public and private.”

Standards Commissioner Kathryn Stone, said data provided by the MP showed that “generally, sexually explicit messages were during the evenings, late at night, in the early hours and weekends. Some were during ‘office hours’.”

Ms Stone concluded she was “not persuaded the texts have caused significant damage to the reputation and integrity of the House.”
