Torso identity confirmed as Jake Anderson-Brettner's family prepare for funeral

A torso found in bushland off a highway in Tasmania's north east last month has been formally identified as belonging to Launceston man Jake Anderson-Brettner.

The 24-year-old was last seen alive about 6:00pm on August 15, and police have alleged he was murdered later that night.

Police found the human remains about seven metres off the Tasman Highway, near Targa, four days later, after being led there as part of the investigation.

Friends and family will hold a funeral for Mr Anderson-Brettner in Launceston on Thursday.

Detective Acting Inspector Craig Fox said the coroner had released the remains to Mr Anderson-Brettner's family.

"The circumstances of Jake's death were traumatic and our thoughts and condolences are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time," Detective Inspector Fox said.

Further remains are yet to be located, but the police investigation is ongoing.

"The investigation does have links interstate and Tasmania Police will continue to engage with other state police jurisdictions as part of the investigation," Detective Inspector Fox said.

Jack Harrison Vincent Sadler, 26, of the Launceston suburb of Riverside, has been charged with Mr Anderson-Brettner's murder.

He is yet to enter a plea and is due to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court again on Tuesday, September 11.

Gemma Elizabeth Clark, 25, has pleaded not guilty to being an accessory after the fact.
