Torrey Smith wants his kids to practice baseball after Mike Trout mega-deal

Mike Trout signed a new deal with the Angels this week that made him very wealthy and sparked a lot of interest from other professional athletes. Trout’s contract is worth a reported $430 million over 12 years. That much guaranteed money is sure to spark some envy from NFL players, who may be headed towards an ugly lockout in two years when the current CBA expires.

In the meantime, Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith is planning even further ahead. He wants his kids TJ and Kam to get outside and start practicing baseball, as he shared on Twitter after the Trout news broke.

MLB players tend to play far longer and earn much more money than their counterparts in the NFL and other sports. They also have notably fewer concussions, so it’s not hard to see why Smith and other parents would want to gear their kids towards baseball.

Then again, if every kid had the potential to grow up and play at Mike Trout’s level, he wouldn’t have earned anywhere near that much to begin with.
