Torrey Smith says Patriots WR Julian Edelman is not a Hall of Famer

Julian Edelman was the only offensive standout in what was arguably the most forgettable Super Bowl of the modern era. The Patriots wide receiver caught 10 passes for 141 yards and wound up being a deserving winner of the game’s MVP award.

However, after the game was over some people went just a little bit far when talking about Edelman’s legacy. Adam Schefter at ESPN sparked a debate when he tweeted that Edelman will one day be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. While Edelman’s postseason accomplishments are impressive, his overall production does not warrant that honor. At least not yet, anyway.

It sounds like Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith agrees. He says Edelman is not a Hall of Famer right now.

Edelman has what I like to call the Robert Horry factor – he was a tremendous playoff performer during his NBA career but otherwise was a pedestrian player overall.

If Edelman wins a few more rings and Super Bowl MVPs his candidacy will certainly get a boost. For now, he has to be excluded from the Canton conversation, from where I’m sitting anyway.

Let’s open this up to a vote. Do you think Edelman should be in the Hall of Fame when he finishes his NFL career?
