Torrential rain to batter Merseyside as Met Office issues weather warning

More misery could be in store as the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain tomorrow.

Thunderstorm warnings remain in place for today, but heavy rain is now expected to hit on Tuesday morning,  with potential flood and driving risks in some areas.

The Met Office said there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

It said: "Where flooding occurs, there is a chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

"Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures."

Things are set to improve as the week goes on with warm, muggy temperatures expected into Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesman for the Met Office added: "Tomorrow there will be heavy rain at first, but easing later to leaving a drier, perhaps brighter end to the day.

"Another humid day and becoming warm in any sunshine. Maximum temperature 21c"

Temperatures are set to remain high towards the end of the week, although it is expected to remain humid.
