The weather experts said the band of heavy rain followed by heavy showers or thunderstorms has the potential to bring disruption.

They are warning of flooding, travel disruption and even a danger to life.

The severe weather warning for wind comes into force at midnight on Friday night and lasts until midnight on Saturday.

Disruption could hit travel and there is also the chance of power cuts across the region.

The outlook for Thursday to Saturday for the North West reads: "Mainly dry with sunshine on Thursday, although the odd shower in places. Heavy rain arriving overnight Thursday, with thundery showers on Friday and Saturday. Turning windier with coastal gales."
