Torrential rain and landslides leave homes flooded and neighbours wading through water

Neighbours have been left with water flooding into their homes after torrential rain and a landslide on the hillside above.

Ann Morgan, 66, from Williamstown in the Rhondda , said there was one landslide last week which damaged her home and another this morning. As the video above shows, water is pouring down the hillside into her flat, and her neighbour's, leaving them walking around in water and unable to cook food or wash clothes.

She said: "My son was over my flat and phoned me to say there was a huge flood inside the flat. When I got home everything was ruined. The carpet, wooden floor, washing machine, cooker, literally everything is ruined. I haven't been able to cook dinner in a week and have had to go out for food.

"The problem is no one is taking responsibility and that is frustrating as we don't know what to do. It's likely to rain again in the next few days so we're just worried more damage will be done."

Ann is disabled, partially blind and lives alone. She says this is the fourth time she has been affected by a landslide in the last eight or nine years. She also has ulcers on her leg and now can't walk around her flat as the flood is likely to cause an infection.

"I'm just sat in one room because I can't walk around. Last week's landslide was worse but it's been a week and no one has sorted anything out," she said.

"The damage is going to cost a few thousand pounds to replace, I'm at an old age I can't afford to fix it. Now we're just worried it will happen again. The fire service have been amazing with us and have given us advice but no one else seems to be helping."

Several parts of Wales have been flooded today , after t he Met Office issued a double weather warning.

Forecasters had predicted ongoing stormy conditions could cause power cuts, dangerous flood levels and travel delays. A wind warning was in effect from 4am to 4pm on Saturday while a rain warning runs until 10pm.

Ann's neighbour, Denise Copeland, 52, also lives alone and has seen her flat flooded, with water above ankle height.

She said: "No one has taken any responsibility, that's the most annoying thing. The damage to my home hasn't been as bad as my neighbour's but it's just frustrating because now my flat is flooded with water.

"The fire service advised me not to open my washing room but there may be loads of water inside too. I've been advised to keep my front and back door open to let the water flow."

Last week, a landslide in the same area sent cascades of muddy water and dirt into homes, as these pictures show.
