Torrential downpours turn Falkirk area roads into mini rivers

Heavy downpours have left many roads in Falkirk under water.

Hours worth of rain fell on the district yesterday - which led to minor travel disruption for some commuters.

The A803 Plomont Road, between Polmont and Laurieston, was badly hit with drivers forced to turn round and divert due to the water being so deep.

Passengers were held on a bus until water subsided and it was safe enough to pass.

In Maddiston, Vellore Road was badly hit after a small burn overflowed.

Torrents of water also flooded Seabegs Road in Bonnybridge and Hallam Road in Stenhousemuir, at the Asda supermarket was hit badly.

Drivers also reported problems on the A801 at the Avon Gorge.

It's not known exactly how many flood related incidents Falkirk Council attended, but a spokesperson said: "We received a number of calls to attend areas of flooding across the road network.

"Only one road closure was required on the A8004 between Checkbar Roundabout and Bonnybridge which has now re-opened.

"We will continue to monitor forecast information and respond accordingly."
