Torrent of water floods through Dubai Mall as tourists carry on shopping

A shopping mall in Dubai has been flooded with a torrent of water - but unconcerned shoppers kept browsing for luxury goods.

Footage shows rainwater gushing down from the ceiling at one of the exits that connects the car park at Dubai Mall, the world's second-largest shopping centre, on Sunday.

The water leakage has blocked the entrance to the mall.

In one scene, shoppers walk around the flooded floor as store workers try to protect their stock.

The flooding was reportedly caused by a period of heavy rainfall.

Property development company Emaar said, according to the Dubai Media Office, "Dubai Mall was affected by the heavy rainfall, causing leakages in limited areas.

"We are working to contain all leakages and the mall remains operational and open to the public.

"Mall staff are on the ground, ensuring the visitor experience remains unaffected."

With a total retail floor area of 5.4 million square feet, the shopping centre is situated in the heart of downtown Dubai and has over 1,300 retail outlets.

UAE weather forecasters predict heavy downpour to hit across the UAE until Monday.

The unsettled weather conditions also caused some disruption to flight arrivals and departures at Dubai Airport on Monday afternoon.
