Toronto shooting: Three dead after incident inside Airbnb flat

Three young men were shot dead during a party at a flat rented through Airbnb, say police.

Two other men were injured in the violence at a 39-storey apartment block in the Canadian city of Toronto.

Police Chief Mark Saunders said the incident began during a "social gathering" inside the city centre flat at about 10.30pm local time on Friday.

He told reporters at the scene: "I can tell you that multiple floors are involved. We found people on other floors.”

Police confirmed three men - aged 19, 20 and 22 - died after being shot and a fourth victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

A fifth person suffered minor cuts, but was not shot.

Detectives have launched a murder probe.

Police did not reveal a possible motive and later announced that they were not looking for a suspect.

Chief Saunders added that the public shouldn't be in fear following the incident at the tower block.

He told reporters: "There is no evidence that tells us that the public should be concerned for their safety."

Airbnb has banned the booking guest from its platform.

It is understood there had been no previous complaints about the listing, which had banned parties in its official rules.

The listing has been suspended.

An Airbnb spokeswoman told Mirror Online: "We are deeply saddened by the tragedy that occurred in Toronto last night and our thoughts are with all who have been impacted - including the victims and their loved ones as well as the neighbouring residents.

"We are in close coordination with Toronto Police Services to offer our full support of their investigation into this senseless gun violence.

"We have zero tolerance for this type of behaviour, and we ban both party houses and unauthorised parties on our platform."

The men who died are Toronto's seventh, eighth and ninth homicide victims of 2020, just one month into the new year.

All but one of the victims was shot.

Last year was Toronto's most violent year on record for gun violence.

More than 760 people were shot in Canada's largest city in 2019.

Of those, 44 were killed.
