Toronto Raptors beat Golden State Warriors to win first ever NBA title

The Toronto Raptors have been crowned NBA champions for the first time in their history.

The Raptors secured a 114-110 victory over Golden State Warriors in game week six on Thursday night. Nick Nurse’s side won the series 4-2, denying the Warriors what would have been a third consecutive championship victory.

Kawhi Leonard was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player after averaging 28.5 points.

Leonard, who also won the award in 2014 while playing for San Antonio Spurs, joins Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and LeBron James as the only players in NBA history to win Finals MVP with two different franchises

Stephen Curry had a golden opportunity to level the series for the Warriors but missed a crucial three-pointer with about five seconds left.

NBA fans take over Toronto

The Raptors became the first Canadian side to win a major sports title in North America since the Toronto Blue Jays won the World Series in 1993.
