Liverpool have confirmed Fernando Torres will be out for "between two and three weeks" with a torn hamstring. The Spain striker will almost certainly miss Manchester United's visit to Anfield on September 13 and faces a race to be fit for the Champions League group stage opener at Marseille on September 16.
Torres limped off in Liverpool's goalless draw at Aston Villa yesterday after pulling up while chasing a Javier Mascherano pass with Nicky Shorey, and it was originally thought he would be out of action for seven to 10 days. However a Liverpool spokesman said today: "A scan this afternoon has confirmed a hamstring tear in Fernando's right leg. He is expected to be out for between two and three weeks."
He has been withdrawn from the Spain squad ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Armenia.
