'Tories are pandering to small group of wealthy members as country faces disaster'

Neither Rishi Sunak nor Liz Truss is offering any solutions to the huge and unprecedented problems Britain is facing.

Instead, the leadership hopefuls are fixated on pandering to a small and wealthy group of Tory members who have self-interest as their main priority.

Just like Boris Johnson, they are obsessed with gaining power rather than doing what is best for the country.

All they have to offer are versions of the same failed right-wing Tory policies that have left the country in crisis and brought all our public services to their knees.

For the majority of the British public, choosing between Sunak and Truss to be our next Prime Minister is like choosing between a poke in the eye or a kick in the teeth.

I hope Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss put as much effort into helping the public with price rises as they are putting into scoring points off each other.

They just say one thing before making a U-turn.

I sincerely hope all the people who voted Tory because they didn’t like Corbyn come back to the Labour Party with a vengeance, while Tory voters realise who they have put into power.

They are all an absolute disgrace but most are rich so they don’t understand what it’s like to struggle.

The dishevelled Tories are fiddling while Britain burns in another heatwave amid an escalating energy crisis which is going to scorch families in the not too distant future.

With several more meaningless party hustings to come to decide our next leader, and shamed Boris Johnson in limbo, the nation is at crisis point.

There’s no longer a safety net to protect the vulnerable due to the erosion of benefits and the state pension over the last decade.

No wonder the country is faced with strike action on so many different fronts.

Do Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak think we are stupid?

The energy companies have posted massive profits while the Treasury is raking in extra VAT and fuel duty due to the surge in prices.

Taxpayers are now paying for the £37 billion wasted on the bungled Test and Trace system as well as all the lucrative contracts given to their chums during the pandemic.

Truss promises tax cuts but this won’t benefit those who need help the most.

Let’s not forget that as prices rise, the less well off will be paying a large proportion of their income in tax.

The gap between the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ is widening every week under
the Tories.

Any politician not offering a solution to the cost-of-living crisis isn’t fit for public office.

This October, even more people will be going cold and hungry outside the ivory towers of the Palace of Westminster.

The profiteering of the oil giants is vile at a time when so many will be in fuel poverty.

This country needs a general election and a decent person at the helm – one who will end austerity, scrap Universal Credit and
renationalise the utilities and the railways.

Robert Shipley, North Kent

Boris Johnson says he won’t be making any new announcements on the cost-of-living crisis because he is leaving it for his successor.

Why then did the Conservatives allow him to carry on as PM, because he has done absolutely nothing lately except go on a luxury holiday with his wife?

Johnson’s inaction has just confirmed how selfish he is.
