Tories accused of 'more cuts' as they fail to spell name of Mersey hospital correctly

The Tories have been accused of 'more cuts' after missing a letter off a hospital's name on the website of their local candidate.

Laura Evans has been selected to fight for the marginal Wirral West Parliamentary seat in the next General Election - but she and her team will have to work on their local knowledge.

On various areas of her new website - Laura Evans for Wirral West - the name of Arrowe Park Hospital is spelt incorrectly.

It is written as Arrow Park several times.

What makes the error more glaring, is that one of the incorrect spellings of the hospital's name is written directly below a picture of Laura posing next to the Arrowe Park Hospital sign.

Another section of the website discusses a 'plan for Upton' where the well-known hospital is based - but again fails to spell the name of the facility correctly.

An ECHO reader who first alerted us to the various errors said: "Is this another Tory cut to the NHS?"

Liverpool Walton MP candidate talks politics and weight loss

He added: "The Tories can’t even spell the name of our hospital, let alone protect it."

When the errors were pointed out to Ms Evans, she apologised.

She said: "Spelling is an issue for me and I don't have anyone helping me with this stuff, it's just me.

"I don't have 100 resources to throw at it - but I'm grateful for people pointing this out and I have now changed it - I apologise."

Ms Evans, formerly a councillor in Trafford stood for the Conservatives in Liverpool Walton in the 2017 General Election - finishing a very distant second to Labour's Dan Carden.

In the run up to that election she revealed to the ECHO that she had shed a remarkable 16 stone in weight in just two years.

While Ms Evans never really stood a chance of landing the MP seat in Liverpool Walton in 2017 - she will be looking forward to a much closer battle in Wirral West in the inevitable upcoming election.

In 2017, Labour's Margaret Greenwood retained her seat with a majority of just over 5,000 votes - a larger margin than many had predicted for a seat that has often swung between Labour and the Conservatives.
