Topsoil firm Dandy's doubles workforce as pandemic helps fuel surge in demand

Booming demand has seen topsoil firm Dandy’s double its workforce.

The Flintshire firm has increased staff numbers from 15 to 30 in a matter of weeks.

On top of the normal seasonal demand is an extra spike due to the pandemic as people focus on their gardens instead of splashing out on foreign holidays.

This has seen the long established family firm take on extra digger and delivery drivers and sales and administrative staff to help them cope with the surge.

Owner Adam Dandy said there had been a particular hike in orders of grow your own products, chicken coop wood ships and pallet furniture kits

He added: “Many customers are telling us that they are preparing for a spring and summer at home in the garden, as holidays abroad look more unlikely due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

"Throughout the pandemic we have received ongoing support and advice from our local Welsh Parliament member Jack Sargeant MS, for which we as a growing local business are very grateful.”

The firm has also been boosted by brand ambassador, the Ex-Manchester United and Villa striker Dion Dublin, who presents BBC Homes Under The Hammer.
