Topshop, Topman, Dorothy Perkins and all other Arcadia stores shut due to virus

Every Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge, Dorothy Perkins, Evans and Burton store in the UK and Ireland is being shut to mitigate the spread of coronavirus.

Parent company Arcadia said stores had shut at 4pm today – and would remain shut until the crisis had passed.

Online operations will stay open.

It came as Boris Johnson announced cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants are to be closed as of this evening under sweeping new measures to try and slow the virus.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the latest drastic move in his latest daily Covid-19 Downing Street press conference.

But those worried about losing their jobs have been told the Government will pay 80 per cent of wages for everyone who finds themselves out of work – up to a maximum of £2,500 a month.

Arcadia owns sight high street fashion brands and employs 19,000 people across the world.

It is owned by Sir Philip Green and his family.

In a statement, a spokeswoman for the group said: ”The health and wellbeing of our employees, customers and communities remains our highest priority and we continue to closely follow the government guidelines.

“In line with many other retailers the group has made the difficult decision to close until further notice all of our stores from 4pm this afternoon.

“All store staff remain employees during this time and will be paid their normal pay for March plus any outstanding overtime payments, after which we will review this situation and will be keeping our store teams updated.

“In the meantime we will be focusing on our digital and social platforms to keep our customers engaged during this challenging time.”
