Topshop in Bristol's Cabot Circus emptied after Arcadia Group collapse

A prominent clothing shop in Bristol city centre has been emptied after the collapse of the company which owned it.

All that can be seen on the shop floor of Topshop in Cabot Circus are bare rails and undressed mannequins.

The Arcadia Group, which owned Topshop, collapsed in November 2020 with a £750million deficit.

ASOS rescued the brand for £295million in February but announced it would close all stores as part of the takeover, saving just 300 jobs.

The online behemoth also acquired Topman, Miss Selfridge and HIIT from the administrators of Arcadia.

A notice on the door of the Cabot Circus store outlines details of the company's administration process.

It reads: "Matt Smith, Daniel Butters and Robert Fishman of Deloitte LLP were appointed Joint Administrators of Arcadia Group Limited, and Matt Smith, Daniel Butters, and Gavin Maher of Deloitte LLP were appointed Joint Administrators of all other companies on 30 November 2020.

"The affairs, businesses and property of the Companies are being managed by the Joint Administrators. The Joint Administrators act as agents of the Companies and contract without personal liability."

A week after ASOS' purchase of Topshop and Topman, online fashion giant Boohoo bought bits of other Arcadia brands, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Burton.

The £25million deal includes the website and stock, but none of the three chains' 214 stores. Boohoo made the acquisition one month after it purchased Debenhams.

Green’s Arcadia group employed 13,000 people when it collapsed last year.

In 2012, the Arcadia Group was delisted from the London Stock Exchange when it was bought by Green's Taveta Investments group for £850million.

It collapsed into administration on November 30 last year, under the weight of a £750million debt pile.

Administrators confirmed in January that all 21 Outfit stores, alongside a further 10 shops for other Arcadia brands, would close in a move which will impact more than 700 jobs.
