Topless man fled to roof of block of flats after police raided house below

A topless man fled to the roof of a block of flats after police raided a house below him.

Emergency services were called to support officers when the man climbed up onto the building on Gilead Street in Kensington on Tuesday morning.

The dramatic reaction came after officers executed a warrant at a home on nearby Holdsworth Drive.

Shortly before 9.30am the man was spotted on the roof wearing just a pair of shorts and holding a packet of cigarettes while shouting at police below him.

Fire crews and specialist paramedics were called to the scene along with police negotiators who aimed to get the man down safely off the roof.

After an hour on the roof, officers confirmed that the man had come back down to the ground.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We are have been in attendance in Kensington this morning (Tuesday, 14 April) after reports of a man on a roof.

"Just after 9.20am, a warrant was carried out at an address in Holdsworth Drive and a man was reported to have made onto the roof of a house.

"Officers were at the scene with specially trained negotiators and the man was detained after he came down from the roof just before 10.30am."

Later in the day, the force confirmed that a man had been arrested and taken into custody but it is not clear what he was arrested for or why officers were executing a warrant nearby.
