Top Valley's long-awaited Aldi supermarket officially opens

Aldi's long-awaited new Top Valley supermarket has opened to the public.

Sited in Hucknall Road, near the Bulwell Forest Recreation Ground, the store was opened at 8am on Thursday (July 16).

Run by store manager Lisa Jones, a total of 32 new jobs have been created.

Prior to the official ribbon cutting, she said: "We’re really looking forward to opening the new Aldi store here in Top Valley.

"It’s set to be a great day as we’ll be celebrating the opening of Aldi’s sixth store in the area, where we can provide the local community access to affordable, high-quality food.

“It’ll be lovely to welcome local customers into the new store and provide them with Aldi’s everyday amazing products.

"The team and I are looking forward to meeting our new customers in store from Thursday 16 July.”

The store has been on the cards for several years - however, the project was delayed after a deep water well was found and minor site changes were approved by Nottingham City Council last year.

Labour Councillor Sam Gardiner, who represents Bulwell Forest on the city council, told Nottinghamshire Live "it will be nice to have more variety".

"We are all waiting and quite excited to see the new opening of the Aldi.

"It's been a construction site (for some time)," he previously said.

"It's nice to finally see that that issue (delaying the project) has been resolved and we are going to get a new Aldi in the area."

It comes after the supermarket chain outlined plans to open a  further 13 new stores across Nottinghamshire as part of its expansion drive.
