Top-up taps to be installed in Perth

Scottish Water has got permission to put a top-up tap for people wanting to refill water bottles right in the middle of Perth High Street.

The corporation sought consent for the tap from the council back in August as part of its wider campaign to install refilling stations all over Scotland.

According to the council’s report of handling, the stainless steel station will go across from the entrance to St John’s Shopping Centre and will be “circular in form and of size to enable easy refilling of bottles with water”.

Scottish Water said in a supporting statement it wanted the refilling station to go there as it would be “in an area of high footfall ... in an area of seating and cycle racks [and] located close to CCTV”.

The council’s report went on: “The Scottish Water campaign seeks to promote the benefits of tap water and the re-use of drinking containers to reduce waste and wider environmental impacts.

“The filling station point is to be installed close to existing street furniture and should sit well within the context of the High Street which has a range of buildings, hard and soft landscaping measures.

“No adverse visual amenity issues are envisaged and the impact on the character or appearance of the conservation area will be no greater than other existing structures within the pedestrianised area.”
