Top Tory fumbles on live TV as he refuses to say when manifesto is coming out

A top Tory was left floundering on live TV this morning as he refused to say when the party's manifesto would be released.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury Rishi Sunak appeared on Good Morning Britain where he was grilled about when the Tories would be outlining their policies.

Host Ben Shephard said: "When are we going to get the Tory party manifesto? Is it coming on Sunday? Are we going to get it before the election?"

Mr Sunak laughed as he replied: "Of course you'll get it before the election happens and actually you'll get it very shortly...certainly it will be by next week."

Ben continued: "But we need to be able to understand, we need to be able to look at it. We need to consider what you're offering."

The Tory politician stumbled as he replied: "Of course you will, these things don't all come out on the same day. We've just had the Labour party manifesto published yesterday.

"The point is, all the things in there, as I said, add up to hundreds of billions of pounds of spending."

Charlotte Hawkins then interrupted him to say: "What we're here to talk about as well, is when we'll hear more about what the Conservative Party are going to put in their manifesto. So you said it will be out soon. When can we expect that?"

He once again reiterated it would "be out soon" but refused to say exactly when the manifesto would be released.

Ben added: "So you're Chief Secretary to the Treasury and you don't know what day your own manifesto is coming out?"

Mr Sunak fumbled as he said: "Of course I know, we will put it out.."

He then said they'd spent more time speaking about "the process rather than the issues" when Ben interrupted saying: "We can't talk about them because you haven't released them yet".

Viewers were left unimpressed with the exchange with one writing: "Rishii Sunak: Spent an entire interview slagging Labour off, and completely dodging most questions about the Conservatives by slagging Labour off. Modern politics, everyone."

Another said: "Oh dear, he didn't like being derailed by the difficult what day is your manifesto out question. #gmb ".

A third added: "Rishi Sunak loves moving the conversation away from Tory policy doesn't he? #gmb ."

A fourth continued: "Well done Rishi Sunak you complained about Corbyn dodging questions...then dodged them yourself. You either don't know about your policy or you're withholding from the public. You just succeeded in showing the nation you are arrogant and haven't got a clue."
