Top tips on how to keep pesky wasps away as the pests cause issues

It's that time of the year again - pesky wasps are here to annoy us!

The pests are particularly bothersome at this time of year, but they don't have to be too much of an issue.

There are some things you can do to make sure they are not badgering you too much.

Want to get rid of them? Here's some top tips:

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil diluted in a sprayer is an all natural solution to deter wasps from coming in to your home or to land on you!

Dab some peppermint oil on your pulse points where you would put perfume so the back of your ears, collarbone and the backs of your knees if your bare-legged. Thank us later!

If you dilute pepper mint oil in a sprayer it can be sprayed on entry ways and on any blind or curtains. An added perk is that your house will smell minty fresh.

If you are enjoying the outdoors and having a BBQ burn some peppermint oil undiluted in several oil burners and cover food that isn't being consumed to give you comfort. You can purchase peppermint oil in most pharmacies and health food stores.

Magnetised net

They may sound random but are a savvy way to allow fresh air through without facing insect issues if you're cooking or trying to switch off.

They can be found on Amazon and it is very beneficial if you're having issues with wasps and flies.

White vinegar

If you want to kill wasps as opposed to just repelling them using white vinegar and water in a sprayer is an effective all natural remedy to take them out.

The measure should be half and half for enough potency. Dish soap is a cheap solution in a sprayer but could be a slower acting alternative so you run the risk of getting stung.

Hairspray

On Reddit, users have discussed how hairspray freezes them and makes them easy to dispose of.

Also on lifestyle site Hunker they advise that using WD40 is a strong solution to stop wasps nesting around your home and that spraying previous nesting areas and gutters liberally can act as a preventative but that if you vigilantly use WD40 while being cautious and using rubber gloves, the chemical agents would eliminate the hive.
