Top tips for passing through security as Dublin Airport to have busiest August Bank Holiday in its history

Dublin Airport is set to have its busiest August Bank Holiday weekend ever as passengers numbers are set to rise.

Almost 452,000 passengers are expected to travel through the busy travel port from August 2 to August 5.

And passenger figures are up 6% compared to the same weekend last year.

Dublin Airport Chief Communications Officer, Paul O’Kane said: “Large numbers are expected to travel through the airport this weekend, so we are advising passengers to go directly to security screening once they have checked-in.

"Both terminals have a wide variety of restaurants and shopping options beyond the security screening area”.

What should I do to ensure a smooth journey through Dublin Airport?

  • Passengers are encouraged to familiarise themselves with security screening procedures and prepare in advance so that they can proceed through security without delay to themselves or their fellow passengers.
  • Passengers are advised to check which terminal their flight is departing from BEFORE leaving home. Aer Lingus, Emirates, Norwegian and all the US carriers operate from Terminal 2 while all other airlines operate from Terminal 1.
  • Passengers should plan to arrive in the terminal building at least 90 minutes before their flight departure time. Some airlines advise passengers to arrive earlier than 90 minutes at busier times; passengers should consult their airline’s website before travelling to the airport. Trans-Atlantic passengers should plan to arrive in the terminal three hours before their departure time.
  • All baggage brought through the security screening area is subject to the EU Aviation Security regulations concerning liquids. In this regard passengers are advised to check the details of these regulations before setting out on their journey to the airport.
  • Passengers are also reminded to remove all sharp objects from hand luggage to ensure compliance with national and EU regulations. These objects should be packed into checked in luggage, in addition, all laptop computers must be removed from their outer casing for security screening.
