'Top team' Buriram eye third trophy of season, face Prachuap in FA Cup final

Battle lines drawn: Buriram's Naruebodin Weerawatnodom, left, and Prachuap's Jiraphan Phasukkhan pose with the FA Cup trophy.

Defending champions Buriram United will bid for a third piece of silverware this season when they face PT Prachuap in the FA Cup final at Thammasat Stadium Sunday night. Kick‑off is at 7pm.

At Saturday's pre‑match press conference, Prachuap head coach Sasom Pobprasert acknowledged the scale of the challenge.

"We know we are underdogs against Buriram, but we want to win. This is a big game and anything can happen in a one‑match final. We will not give up," he said.

Sasom praised Buriram's strength in depth and financial muscle, describing them as "one of Asia's top teams" who can rotate quality players with ease for any game.

"It is difficult to play against Buriram, but we also have good players. Facing them gives us valuable experience in a major Thai tournament," he added.

Buriram, already winners of Thai League 1 and the Shopee Cup, sent team director Samaporn Polbutr to address the media. He confirmed several injured players had returned to fitness. "We hope our team can defend the trophy again this year," he said.

Defender Naruebodin Weerawatnodom stressed the need for focus.

"Prachuap are a good side and their coach can change tactics well. We cannot underestimate them. We have one match left and one goal -- to win it," he said.

The FA Cup winners will collect five million baht and a place in the AFC Champions League Elite group stage. The runners‑up will receive one million baht.

National team camp begins

Nineteen Thai national team players reported to camp on Saturday at the Novotel Future Park Rangsit hotel as preparations began for next month's Fifa international window.

Veteran striker Teerasil Dangda joined the squad alongside Sarach Yooyen and Suphanan Bureerat. Four players -- Jude Soonsup‑Bell, Iklas Sanron, Naruebodin Weerawatnodom and Teerapat Pruethong -- are due to link up on Sunday.

Thailand will play Kuwait in a friendly at Pathum Thani Stadium on Friday before travelling to China for a second warm‑up match on June 9 at Jinhua Sports Center Stadium.

The fixtures form part of head coach Anthony Hudson's build‑up to the next phase of World Cup qualifying later this year.
