Top Scot cop and footballer's wife deny romping in car at park and ride

A top police officer has denied romping in a car with a footballer’s wife at a park-and-ride facility.

Gareth Blair, 49, pled not guilty by letter during a hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

Claire Makel, 41, also denied the charge through a letter sent by her solicitors.

Blair, whose address was given as Fettes police headquarters in Edinburgh, and Makel, of Lauder in Berwickshire, are charged with a public indecency offence at the Hermiston park and ride in Edinburgh.

The charge accuses them of being “undressed and engaging in sexual activity in a motor car in daylight hours and within the view of the public” on two occasions between April 16 and May 21 last year.

The case was set down for trial in April.

Blair is a married chief superintendent with Police Scotland.

The dad of one took up the post as commander of Edinburgh division in June 2018.

Makel is married to ex-Hearts and Livingston footballer Lee Makel.
